Registered Psychotherapist in Christchurch

Growing up in Christchurch, I was always curious about people. I wondered why we think the way we do, why we can respond so differently to the same experiences, and what shapes the people we become. That curiosity first led me to study psychology, and it has continued to shape the way I understand people and my work as a therapist.

In my early twenties, my work took me in a new direction through therapeutic bodywork. Around that time, I had a powerful experience while receiving bodywork myself. Something unresolved emerged emotionally, leaving me with more questions than answers. It sparked a deep curiosity about the connection between our emotional experiences, our bodies, and how healing can occur. That experience led me to begin my own psychotherapy and ultimately marked the beginning of my journey towards becoming a registered psychotherapist now practising in Christchurch.

My curiosity shifted from understanding why people struggle to supporting them through life’s challenges with care, safety, and respect. That experience still shapes how I work today. Rather than fitting people into a model or diagnosis, I focus on getting to know each person’s unique experience and working together to discover what might help.

In my own therapy, I learned that connecting with someone isn’t about having the right techniques. Presence matters too. Over time, I stopped focusing on finding the perfect intervention and trusted the relationship more. That changed how I felt in the room and my perspective on life.

People often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed or unsure of who they are. I see that differently. I see people whose lives have been shaped by their experiences. As we understand those experiences, what once felt confusing can start to make sense. Understanding our story may not always take all the pain away, but it can help us reconnect with ourselves and discover new ways forward.

Every person is unique, and I see therapy as a collaborative process of exploring your experience, understanding what has shaped you, and discovering what feels possible from here. Then, we can gently explore the changes you’d like to make, at a pace that feels right for you.

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time in nature, exercising, creating art, photography and exploring dreams and symbolic imagery from a Jungian perspective. These interests keep my curiosity and creativity alive.

I feel privileged to be alongside people during some of their most vulnerable and meaningful times. If we work together, I hope you’ll find therapy to be a place where you feel truly seen, deeply heard, and supported.

How I Understand and Support Change

My work brings together several well-established psychotherapy approaches, including Transactional Analysis, Jungian psychology, Gestalt therapy, somatic psychotherapy and, where appropriate, CranioSacral Therapy.

Underpinning much of my work is a psychodynamic perspective, recognising that many of the ways we think, feel, relate to others and experience ourselves develop outside of conscious awareness. Together, these approaches help us explore recurring patterns, the influence of earlier relationships, and what may be unfolding within the therapeutic relationship itself.

You don't need to understand these approaches before beginning Therapy. They offer different ways of understanding your experience and help me tailor Therapy to your individual needs.

Transactional Analysis (TA) helps us understand the patterns we develop in how we think, feel and relate to others. It offers practical ways of recognising these patterns and developing greater awareness and choice.

Jungian psychology explores the deeper layers of our inner world, including dreams, symbols and different aspects of ourselves. It can help bring greater meaning, self-understanding and connection to who you are.

Gestalt therapy focuses on what is happening in the present moment. By bringing awareness to your thoughts, emotions, bodily experience and relationships, it can help you respond to life with greater clarity and authenticity.

Somatic psychotherapy recognises that our experiences are held not only in our minds but also in our bodies. Paying attention to bodily sensations, tension and nervous system responses can support greater regulation, awareness and integration.

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, body-based approach that uses light therapeutic touch to support awareness, relaxation and the body's natural capacity for change. When appropriate, it can be integrated with psychotherapy to work with both physical and emotional experience.

Who I Work With

I work with adults from a wide range of backgrounds and life experiences. Some people come to therapy during a time of distress, while others are seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships, or patterns they have noticed throughout their lives.

Many of the people I work with have experienced trauma, complex or developmental trauma, attachment difficulties, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, or emotional overwhelm. I also welcome neurodivergent clients, including people with ADHD, adapting therapy to each person's individual way of experiencing and making sense of the world.

Professional Practice

I believe that being an effective therapist involves more than completing training. It requires ongoing professional development, regular clinical supervision, personal reflection, and a commitment to practising ethically and safely. I remain actively engaged in continuing professional learning and adhere to the professional standards and codes of ethics of the organisations I belong to.
